Description
This little delilght is called Gomphrena pulchella, truffula pink, otherwise known as a globe amaranth. Some may recognize the name "Truffula" as a type of tree featured in "the Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. the flowers do resemble truffula trees. From the White Flower Farm Web site:
"Like the typical Globe Amaranth, this Gomphrena is a great cut flower, but it’s also so much more. Flowers are held on graceful, arching stems above narrow leaves. The blossoms are tufted, hot pink orbs with the bracts tipped in tangerine. Thriving in hot weather and dry soil, this variety is easy to grow in sunny beds and containers."
Ours are planted in a large container next to the driveway, in a spot we can see really well from the kitchen. It's a joy to see the prolific blossoms towering over the other container plants and showing off their gorgeous colors and charming shape, as the wind gently blows their long, arching stems.
Processed in Photoshop with Topaz Studio, Nik Color Efex 4, and several textures.
