This is an older image that I'm bringing back for a contest. Some years ago on a visit to Tower Hill Botanic Garden this lovely canna really caught my eye. She was bold and sassy, and I really wanted to do her justice. But I was shooting with my point and shoot camera that day, so when I looked at the image at home, all I saw was the distracting background, so I duplicated the image and set the blend mode to Multiply, and did some more background darkening with adjustment layers. Bye-bye background, and hello gorgeous!

I have enjoyed photographing nature since I first learned to use a camera more advanced than my childhood Instamatic! When my husband Rick and I bought our home in Massachusetts back in 1979, we fell in love with the beautiful wooded wetland behind the house, and over the years we have come to love it even more. We also love gardening and the original property was mostly lawn. Over time we updated the landscape many times, and recently we added a naturalistic woodland garden near the wetlands and more cultivated gardens in the front and side yards.
