Description
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Bristol, Maine, USA
On our recent trip to the coast of Maine, we visited the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, which is located in the town of Bristol, Maine at the entrance to Muscongus Bay and Johns Bay.
From the site visitmaine.net:
"Pemaquid is home to one of Maine's most iconic lighthouses. In fact, it's featured on the Maine quarter, the first U.S. coin to feature a lighthouse. It was built in 1835 and marks the entrance to Muscongus Bay and Johns Bay. The light and lighthouse keeper's home and museum are preserved in a spectacular coastal park, perfect for picnics with views out to Monhegan Island.
I wanted to photograph the lighthouse from the rocks below, but there was a high surf advisory so I went with a closer shot. The clouds were just right that afternoon, and I wanted to bring out the clouds as well as give the image a painterly feel. Using Topaz Impression and a number of textures, I got the result I wanted.
Nikon D810 with Nikon 24-70mm lens at 66mm.
