Description
Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine USA
We try to visit Acadia every year, usually in the fall, and we always stop at Monument Cove on Ocean Drive to shoot and enjoy the beauty of the ocean. This year we were there in early November, not long after a very destructive storm with heavy rains and strong winds that caused major devastation on Mount Desert Island, as well as other parts of Maine. There were many power outages, and you couldn't drive very far without seeing a utility truck or road closed due to downed trees. We were lucky that our B&B didn't lose power, but the howling winds on Halloween night were really scary!
The powerful storm brought high surf all over the island, and we shot in several locations to capture the stunning waves. I took many shots at Monument Cove, as well as other spots on Ocean Drive, hoping to capture the incredible power and beauty of those waves after the storm had passed.
I have photographed this rock many times, but on that day the crashing waves made it look like a spouting whale, which I thought was really cool!
