Description
Somesville Bridge, Mount Desert Island, Maine
I shot this image of the iconic Somesville Bridge when we were up at Acadia earlier this month. The foliage was wonderful, as was the reflection of the bridge in the water. This is one of the most photographed bridges in Maine, as mentioned on Acadiamagic.com:
"One of the most recognized and photographed man made structures on Mount Desert Island is the arched wooden foot bridge in Somesville that sits next to the historic Selectmens Building - C. 1780. The bridge stands out so much that the view on the opposite side of the road, revealing Somes Harbor with Cadillac Mountain as the backdrop, can sometimes be missed."
From Wikipedia:
"Somesville is the earliest village of the town of Mount Desert on Mount Desert Island in southeastern Maine. It is located on the north end of Somes Sound.[2] The village was established by Abraham Somes who was the first settler on the island.[3] It attracted many people because of its mills and quarries.[4] The entire village is part of the Somesville Historic District."
