Description
The daylily is such a special flower - so beautiful, vibrant, and full of life, but only for one day. I think the ephemeral quality of these lovely blossoms is one of the reasons I love them so much and always want to take the time to enjoy them while we have them. Many daylilies also fade quickly in hot weather, so it's best to photograph them in the morning, something I find challenging but well worth the effort.
One of the latest additions to our summer garden is the Charles Johnson daylily, which gave us his its blossom of the season today, thanks to some hungry deer that took many, but fortunately not all of the buds. This is not the last one - I took shot this a couple of weeks ago, but it's taken me some time to process it in a way that worked for me. Many tries, not so many good results. I did take some artistic license, making the color more crimson than red because, well, this Charles just wanted to be crimson. I love the way the flower is looking up at me, as if to say "Yes, I really am that gorgeous."
Processed in Photoshop with Topaz Studio and several textures.
