Artist's Description

We recently returned to the the Beautiful Thuya Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine and the dahlias were as lovely as they were last September. We were lucky to get an overcast day so we didn't have to deal with harsh midday sunlight!

This eye-catching beauty is called Sho-N-Tell, and there is plenty of reason for her to show off. From the site Gardenia.net:

"Dahlia 'Show N Tell' is an eye-catching Dinner Plate Dahlia with huge and festive, frilly, red-orange blossoms adorned with buttery-yellow tips. The fully double flowers, up to 8-10 in. wide (20-25cm), are borne atop strong, sturdy stems. Blooming prodigiously from midsummer until frost, this dahlia grows up to 3 ft. tall (90 cm). Great for bouquets and stunning at the back of the border, its enormous flowers will be the talk of the neighborhood."

Processed in Photoshop with Topaz Studio, Nik Color Efex 4, with a light texture added.

Nikon D810 with Nikon 200mm micro lens.

About Anita Pollak

Anita Pollak

I have enjoyed photographing nature since I first learned to use a camera more advanced than my childhood Instamatic! When my husband Rick and I bought our home in Massachusetts back in 1979, we fell in love with the beautiful wooded wetland behind the house, and over the years we have come to love it even more. We also love gardening and the original property was mostly lawn. Over time we updated the landscape many times, and recently we added a naturalistic woodland garden near the wetlands and more cultivated gardens in the front and side yards. I love photographing flowers, and many of my flower photos were taken in our yard or at three very special botanical gardens in New England: Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston,...
