Artist's Description

These menacing gargoyles look down at you from bay windows on the Manhattan Building in Chicago. From Wikipedia:

"The Manhattan Building is a 16-story building at 431 South Dearborn Street in Chicago, Illinois. It was designed by architect William Le Baron Jenney and constructed from 1889 to 1891. It is the oldest surviving skyscraper in the world to use a purely skeletal supporting structure. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 16, 1976, and designated a Chicago Landmark on July 7, 1978."

Chicago is known for its outstanding architecture, and in fact the first "skyscraper" was the Home Insurance Building in Chicago, also designed by by architect William Le Baron Jenney, opening in 1885 and demolished in 1931.

I gave these very cool gargoyles an absract treatment, using Filter Forge to get the illustration effect and Topaz Studio for the vibrant colors.

When my husband Rick and I bought our home in Massachusetts back in 1979, we fell in love with the beautiful wooded wetland behind the house, and over the years we have come to love it even more. We also love gardening and the original property was mostly lawn. Over time we updated the landscape many times, and recently we added a naturalistic woodland garden near the wetlands and more cultivated gardens in the front and side yards. I love photographing flowers, and many of my flower photos were taken in our yard or at three very special botanical gardens in New England: Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston,...
