Autumn in New England is so very special, and so very fleeting. Our season started late and ended soon after when the heavy winds and rain came, so I didn't have a chance to capture as many images as I would have liked. But this one was very special - late afternoon backlighting behind these gorgeous red-orange leaves really made it the flame of autumn!

I have enjoyed photographing nature since I first learned to use a camera more advanced than my childhood Instamatic! When my husband Rick and I bought our home in Massachusetts back in 1979, we fell in love with the beautiful wooded wetland behind the house, and over the years we have come to love it even more. We also love gardening and the original property was mostly lawn. Over time we updated the landscape many times, and recently we added a naturalistic woodland garden near the wetlands and more cultivated gardens in the front and side yards.
